I tend to gravitate towards artists that are unapologetically themselves, so imagine my pure delight when I stumbled upon FLETCHER last Friday. I happened to listen to her new EP at work and I was immediately captivated. Her EP is named, you ruined new york city for me, and it’s every bit of dramatic that you imagine it to be. FLETCHER captures her messy truth in five phenomenal songs.
Pop music can sometimes be dismissed as surface music; the kind of music that you dance to, but you rarely seek out the lyrics to. Though I may disagree with that thought, it does tend to be a popular one. Pop music has been at the center most of my life and though I’ve taken breaks from it at times, I still always find my way back to it.
FLETCHER just made me extremely happy that I found my way back just in time for her new EP.
FLETCHER has found a way to use all of the broken pieces from one of her past relationships and create absolute magic from them. On her new EP she has bravely been vulnerable, she has passionately sang the lyrics and she has created an EP that will heal the hearts of many.
When you walk in the bar with someone holding hands
Introduce me to her, say I’m just an old friend
And you ask how I’ve been
I say I’m doing fine but I’m fucking lying
Five wonderfully-heartbreaking songs make up the wonderful EP, you ruined new york city for me and FLETCHER using each song to tell a tragic story. The songs consist of memories from one particularly toxic relationship. She beautifully dances on the line of bravely-vulnerable and too much information; she allows her personal story to weave itself into every lyric while allowing the words to feel relatable. If her aim is to leave you wanting more, then mission accomplished.
FLETCHER has crafted the perfect EP. Every single song deserves to be played and replayed, every beat makes you want to dance the heartache away and her voice is tender when needed, while bringing the power when she needs to remind you that the pain will eventually subside.
I have been listening to FLETCHER all weekend and am absolutely convinced that we will soon be seeing her taking over the music charts.
