I have been trying to write this blog post since July 21 and somehow none of my words seem like enough to truly convey how passionately I feel about my following statement:
Tiffany Haddish is the best thing to come out of 2017
I say this while fully aware that 2017 isn’t over yet but I dare you to try to prove me wrong. It must be a cute rock you live under if you haven’t realized the trying times we are currently living in. My depression is constantly on stand-by, my anxiety is permanently residing in my heart, I cautiously scroll through Twitter every morning afraid of the news headlines and my safety as a Hispanic woman is constantly threatened; 2017 is not playing around. Which is why the release of the movie, Girls Trip was scheduled at the perfect time. I want to make it clear that the entire movie was pure comedy gold but the true stand-out was Ms. Tiffany Haddish.
The first time I heard about Tiffany Haddish was when my best friend sent me a video of her interview on The Breakfast Club; her story isn’t full of sunshine and rainbows but it’s the comedy that she finds within the tragedy that makes her outshine anyone else she shares a screen with. She is genuine, she is humble, she is unapologetically aware of her talent, she is hilarious and she is a breath of fresh air at a time when we are constantly suffocated with negativity.
I feel like I have read every interview she has given and watched every video readily available of her since watching Girls Trip and the more I find out, the more I feel the need to become her best friend (sorry Candice). Tiffany is the girl who will win you over with her charm, have you laughing in a second and will get you emotional with one sentence. She doesn’t take this jump-start to her career lightly, she exudes gratitude and though the road to here has been a treacherous one; I see nothing but success in her near future. She truly excels in comedy but her dreams surpass anything you may be thinking for her, she wants to do action, she wants to do drama, she craves a superhero movie and she deserves all of it.
I need Tiffany up on the Golden Globes and Academy Awards stage; her talent is worthy of all of the awards. She is bringing happiness at a time where we struggle to feel anything but defeated. This woman is the real deal and I am ready to cheer her on every step of the way.
To get a glimpse of the beautiful Unicorn this woman is, here is an excerpt from her interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
Ps. Be on the lookout for her Showtime special coming out on August 18th.
Here is The Breakfast Club interview where I initially discovered her. Listen to her story and become just as obsessed as I have:
