Give the man an Oscar!
Leonardo DiCaprio has truly outdone himself with his newest movie. In “The Revenant” Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, an explorer in the 1800’s who went on a journey in the western wilderness for revenge against another explorer. I’ll be honest the movie is a little long and by “a little” I mean my butt started hurting towards the end. Maybe the seats were uncomfortable, maybe the movie was too long. I left the theatre feeling like I needed to tell everyone about this movie, so … you’re welcome.
Everything in this movie deserves to be recognized. From the make-up, to the directing, to the special effects, to the phenomenal acting; it all came together perfectly. Just by watching the trailer alone, you can tell that this role was a physically demanding one for Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and every other actor involved. I’m telling you, after you watch this movie you will never complain about a long hike again.
“The Revenant” carries along with a story of revenge but there’s so much more to it than just that. This movie is about loyalty, it’s about people that become family even when everything in their way is telling them that it’s wrong, it’s about strength, it’s about letting go. You go through an emotional journey and Leonardo DiCaprio holds your hand the entire way.
So again I say, lets give this man an Oscar! This role gave him little to no script to work with and yet he made me feel every single thing that he felt. I felt his pain, his anxiety, his anger and his need to survive. The movie isn’t for the faint of heart, it gets bloody and there’s more bloody animal insides than I care to see in my lifetime. With that being said; the blood, the guts, the bloody bison liver were all presented in a tasteful way. Meaning that they added to the story instead of just adding the blood and the guts for shock value.
“The Revenant” is a cinematic journey that should not be taken for granted, every second of the film contains the blood, sweat and tears of everyone involved in the creation of it. There’s no way you leave the theatre feeling unaffected from the story you just witnessed. I know that I left the theatre feeling like a fool for ever complaining about anything. The movie is a reminder of how strong we are as human beings and I for one, won’t take that reminder lightly.
