As if 2016 wasn’t emotional enough, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez have decided to release a remastered cover of Pimpinela’s “Olvidame Y Pega la Vuelta” and it has made me emotional. The original version of this song has embedded itself in my soul and I have my over-dramatic aunt who was constantly dealing with marital problems, to blame.
Being that the original song is so iconic (not just for me but for all middle-aged Latin women who are stuck in terrible relationships) I was quite nervous for this new cover. The original by Pimpinela tells a magnificent story of love and heartache and I had my doubts that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony could pull it off. I feared that the song may border on “Pop” as opposed to the intense ballad it was meant to be.
Spoiler Alert: They pulled it off.
Jennifer Lopez truly excels when she is performing Spanish music. Her vocals carry a genuine delivery that hits you right in your heart, coupled with Marc’s raw and gritty vocals; this cover is truly magical. I didn’t realize Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez collaborating was something that I needed, but now I don’t know how I survived so long without it. Look, no one really knows what’s going on with them romantically, but there is no denying that they’re a powerful couple.
Rumor has it, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez are currently working on a Spanish album together and “Olvidame Y Pega la Vuelta” was a perfect introduction.
