Music Monday: You Don’t Know

I promise to not make the entirety of this website about my depression but now that I’m starting to feel like a normal human being again, I feel the need to analyze what’s been going on with me lately.

Climbing out of depression is difficult. You must arm yourself with time and patience in order to properly get yourself to the other side of this. I must add: though I’ve been dealing with clinical depression for a few years now, I want to emphasize that I’m not an expert and can only share with you what I’ve learned from dealing with it.

This Music Monday I want to share with you a song that I feel perfectly describes depression. “You Don’t Know” by Katelyn Tarver randomly popped up in one of my playlists and I don’t even remember adding the song to it. Call me a fool, but I believe The Universe works its magic when you need it the most.

I’m so tired, sitting here waiting
If I hear one more just be patient
It’s always gonna stay the same

It is okay to not be okay.

This is a necessary statement to understand. Though, we mustn’t dwell on the negativity and it’s crippling feeling it brings with it; it is sometimes necessary to sit in the moment of “not okay”.

So, let me just give up
So, let me just let go
If this isn’t good for me, well I don’t wanna know
Let me just stop trying
Let me just stop fighting
I don’t want your good advice or reasons why I’m alright
You don’t know what it’s like
You don’t know what it’s like

In the moments when you feel the most misunderstood, it is refreshing to have music that reminds you just how unpredictable and emotional the human condition can be. Katelyn Tarver has created a necessary song for survival. She delivers it with a voice full of passion and a heart full of understanding. My darkest depression days can feel never-ending but it’s nice when The Universe gets in the way and forces a song to cross your path at the perfect time.

I urge you to go out of your way today to listen to “You Don’t Know” by Katelyn Tarver and while you’re at it listen to her newest song “Never Fade”.
