I have been waiting to write this post, I have sat in my feelings, I fell in love with the music and I have attempted to find the words that will accurately portray how amazing this duo is.
The War and Treaty felt like magic the moment that their music hit my ears. Michael and Tanya blend their voices in a beautiful way in order to create a empowering and positive listening experience. Though they’re still considered an up-and-coming act, there is no denying that global success is just around the corner. Their music is unique, it finds a way to take you back to Nina Simone, Otis Redding, Billie Holliday and yet feels completely created for 2018. The War and Treaty deserves to be heard in the era of mumble rappers and repetitive pop songs; the listening audience deserves better and the best is definitely The War and Treaty.
There’s clearly a theme on juliexplores.com and that theme seems to be magical duos that steal my heart. We’ve had The Civil Wars, The Sweeplings, Johnnyswim and now we can add The War and Treaty to the list. Their album, Healing Tide, has been in constant rotation since it’s release and it’s safe to say that I am properly obsessed.
This album is blues, it’s soul, it carries its heart in its sleeve, its emotional and necessary, all the while Michael and Tanya harmonize their way through a magical experience. The album kicks off with the a cappella, “Love Like There’s No Tomorrow” and if you listen to it in a quiet place, it almost feels like they’re standing in front of you. “Hearts’ is a beautiful back and forth of what their life would be without each other and it may just be my favorite track in the album. Michael and Tanya have created a magnificent work of art and I will now stop until everyone I know has listened to it (yes friends and family, I will continue to text you about it).
Healing Tide is wrapped in love and delivered with pure soul. It is 11 magical experiences and has been aptly named because this album finds a way to heal the broken while creating a safe space for you to feel.
The War and Treaty is currently getting ready for their Fall Tour and I will be at their Los Angeles show celebrating my birthday. Do yourself a favor and listen to this magical duo? I promise your Monday will only get better after you do.
