Kelly Clarkson is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists.
I raved about her latest album, Meaning of Life, when it came out last year and now here I am ready to rave about her latest single, “I Don’t Think About You”. She just released a music video to accompany the single and it is a powerful visual representation of what the song means to Kelly.
“I Don’t Think About You is the moment you realize something has no power over you anymore. We all have people and/or situations in life that mold us and sometimes those situations can feel like they’re about to break us, but this song is about that morning you wake up and you don’t even think about it anymore. It holds no power, no weight in your world, and consumes your thoughts no longer. It’s a song about freedom, honestly.” – Kelly Clarkson
This song has found a special place in my heart and I cannot stop listening to it. If I had a nickel for every time I’ve stated that I was over a particular situation while still being completely consumed by said situation, I could quit my job right now and travel the world.
I have a problem with letting go. I mean, if you’ve read any of my personal posts on this website you’re aware that it’s taken me the better part of a year and a half to get over a friend who broke my heart. Sometimes I feel pathetic about it, sometimes I feel that it’s necessary to take my time and other times I take the music The Universe brings into my life and breathe a sigh of relief when I feel understood. “I Don’t Think About You” has given me a moment of freedom and I stand by my repetitive statement that: Music heals the wounds that we forget are there.
Kelly Clarkson has made an art out of being vulnerable and her heartbreak has always created her most powerful songs. Though, it must be painful for her to go through, I hope she gets a bit of comfort in knowing that her songs are slowly healing the broken pieces of the fans that listen to her music. Kelly’s voice is a special kind of magical and the power behind her words make this song worth a listen. This music video is a beautiful journey towards freedom and if it pushes you to get over something that you’ve been holding on to, I say it’s a perfect way to start a Monday.
