I have had a complicated relationship with Grey’s Anatomy for a couple of years now (I love it, I hate it, I love it), but this current season of Grey’s has made me fall in love with the series all over again. Though I vowed to stop watching after McDreamy died (I’m still not okay), I did eventually come back and this season has been pretty great. Even when I am proclaiming my hatred for a certain episode on social media, there is no denying that this show will always hold a special place in my heart. So this past weekend I was catching up on the current season, when suddenly Jackson Avery starts yelling at April Kepner and this song came on. My mind immediately had flashbacks to when Denny died and I was left crying and listening “Chasing Cars” over and over and over again. This new song had the same effect on me: ugly crying, listening to the lyrics, pausing the scene, googling the song and a bit more of the ugly crying.
The song? “Home” by Sebastian Kole.
This song is the epitome of beautiful story-telling, this song is the reason why it was so easy to fall in love with Grey’s Anatomy back in season 1. Grey’s Anatomy is constantly using music to add to the story, (except for the beginning of this season where they were using covers of songs- yeah that was terrible). “Home” added to the story perfectly, it didn’t take away from what the characters were doing, if anything it made you care more about what they were going through. This is the kind of song that will pull at your heartstrings within the first 10 seconds.
Tell the story how you will
Explain these scars away
Erase the memories
That gave them to me, I’ll wait
A lie is a pretty little pill
Prescriptions for delusions
Pain illusions for your friends
I’ll play the villain once again
The lyrics to “Home” are beautifully painful but what adds to the emotional song are the vocals that Sebastian Kole provides. With a hint of John Legend, a dash of Pentatonix and a hand full of heart; Kole has created a beautiful song. His EP is set to be released on May 13th and I’m already full of excitement for its release.
This is the kind of artist that we need to be supporting; full of talent and just starting out, Sebastian Kole is bound to make his mark in the music industry. I’ll definitely be going on the ride with him, if you want to tag along please follow him on his Facebook to get all of the up-to-date info on his music: SEBASTIAN KOLE’S FACEBOOK
So go, listen to the song and come back to tell me what you think! I apologize in advance for the crying that you’ll inevitably be doing.
