Music Monday: Future Friends – Part One

The perfect POP EP has been created and we have Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi to thank for it.

Those two names may sound familiar and that would be because Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi are part of the acapella super-group: Pentatonix. Scott and Mitch have now ventured off on their own and have created a super-duo: Superfruit. With this new venture came a new EP and Future Friends – Part One is the perfect collection of music to kick July off with.

My mind and body is conflicted, on one hand I am proud of these two; they have accomplished so much in a short amount of time but on the other hand I am green with envy due to the fact that both of them have more talent on one pink than I have in my whole body. Okay I’m kidding about the green with envy part, kind of. There’s almost no reason to even discuss their vocals in this EP, Scott and Mitch are consistently flawless when it comes to their vocals. They can hit all of the notes, all of the time and there will never be anyone who can say otherwise.

In terms of the beats, like I stated earlier, this may just be the perfect POP EP. Though I am aware that perfection is unattainable, I challenge you to find a better-crafted POP EP. They paired the fun lyrics with dance-able music, this entire EP is what I wish they would play in West Hollywood. I can picture many nights of drunk-dancing to these songs and I’m not just saying that because I drunk-danced at the pool on Saturday to this EP

With Future Friends-Part One Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi have taken complete creative freedom and it really pays off in the end. The EP kicks off with “Imaginary Parties”, which may just be my favorite:

If it’s all we ever wanted
Than baby play along
(Cause it makes me feel alive)
Go to imaginary parties
In our make believe Ferrari
Baby let’s get fresh, it’s like we just met

They pay a fun homage to the pop stars before them with “Heartthrob”:

H-E-A-R double T, H-R-O-B
Joey, Lance, and JT
Maybe Chris after a couple drinks
H-E-A-R double T, H-R-O-B
Joey, Lance, and JT
Don’t forget JC, he can really sing
Ooh yeah

The entire EP is 7 single-worthy songs and if I haven’t annoyed my roommate with the music already, I think it’s safe to say that I’ll be listening to this for the rest of the summer. I know it’s quite early in their career to say, but I’m inclined to believe that Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi are physically unable to create bad music.

Watch the aesthetically-pleasing music video for “Imaginary Parties”
