Sometimes inspiration hits you right before you give up and go to bed.
My weekend has been full of family chaos and I had completely forgotten that our monthly Hamildrop would be released at midnight. So here I am wasting an hour of my night looking for a song to feature on this week’s Music Monday and nothing feels right. I decide to call it a night and as I’m getting ready for bed I come across the beautiful gift that Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt have bestowed upon the world; suddenly I am sobbing.
Fully aware that I am constantly expressing the many tears I shed but I am very serious when I say that I am currently crying. This is the collaboration I didn’t know I needed! With a mash-up of “You Will Be Found” from the musical Dear Evan Hansen and “The Story of Tonight” from Hamilton Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt have created a beautiful anthem for March For Our Lives.
Fun fact: buying or streaming this song supports the March For Our Lives Initiative
At a time when hope seems to be slipping from our fingertips on a daily basis, this song serves as a necessary confidence boost. We are existing in a pivotal moment and I am certain that change will come from things that we and our younger generation are doing. If someone would like to scroll through my tweets, I’d like to mention that I requested “The Story of Tonight” be used as the anthem for the Women’s March … I am so ahead of my time. I clearly remember when I first listened to the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack and I will never forget how “You Will Be Found” shook me into recognizing just how necessary my existence was. There is no doubt that these songs are perfect together.
Truly, I could go on and on about the magic that Ben Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda carry but nothing will compare to listening to “Found/Tonight” for yourself (I haven’t been able to listen to it without crying):
