I have had quite a week and though it’s only the early hours of Monday morning, I can already tell this week is running the risk of being excruciating. I could sit here and explain all of the terrible things that have transpired over the last week, but I’ll save that for later in the week. Today I want to focus on the positive. I want to grab the tiny piece of positivity that tried to sneak past my life and I want us to focus on that for the time being.
The positivity? The moment of happiness? That was, as it usually is, wrapped up in good music. This week it just so happens to be the wonderful St. Paul & The Broken Bones and their new song, “Apollo”. In a week where all I’ve wanted to do every day is climb back in bed and pull my sheets over my head, “Apollo” had provided the soundtrack for many solo-dance-parties. It is funk, it is disco, it is everything you need for a good pick-me-up.
I first discovered this band last year, I somehow made my way into one of their YouTube videos and suddenly I was obsessing over every single song they had out. They had soul, the kind that creeps up on you and then takes a hold while it makes you feel completely alive. “Apollo” seems to divert the band from the soulful direction the band was going. Though, don’t get me wrong, the soul will forever be evident; this song feels like a disco jam that deserves a place in the 70’s, while it completely feels at home in 2018.
So on a week where the world feels a little dimmer, maybe this song will help me push the sad away while giving me the perfect song for a dance party.
