I’ll be blunt: I’ve been extremely underwhelmed by all of Swift’s latest releases.
It is my humble opinion that the antics, the Easter egg hunts and the speculating all take away from the music. Taylor Swift has already proved that she can create hit song after hit song, so to reduce her album releases to spectacles feels cheap to me. Though I can see how it can all be entertaining for her younger demographic, I enjoy Taylor the most when she pours herself into the music.
“Lover” offers a taste of the Taylor Swift that we once knew. With her roots tenderly embedded into this song and her lyrics sweetly showcasing her affection, Taylor Swift truly excels when writing or singing about matters of the heart.
My favorite part about “Lover” may just be that just when you’re getting comfortable with the song, the bridge comes in and gives you the lyrics that’ll be stuck in your head for the rest of the summer.
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand?
With every guitar string scar on my hand
I take this magnetic force of a man to be my
My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue
All’s well it ends well to end up with you
Swear to be over-dramatic and true to my
With a simple beat following her sweet melody, this love song feels like everything that helped Taylor Swift climb into our hearts and to the top of the music charts.
“Lover” is the title-track on Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, which is to be released on August 23rd.
