I still remember the joy in my heart that I felt when I heard the first notes of “Another Day of Sun” while I watched La La Land. I can still feel the excitement in my fingers that I felt as I left the theatre. I still remember how I only got three hours of sleep before work that night because I stayed up all night writing. Today is La La Land in Los Angeles and I have the perfect way to celebrate.
Welcome to the EPIC LA LA LAND ADVENTURE – Yes, that is the official title of this mini road-trip.
Last week my friend and I drove around Los Angeles and visited a few locations where they filmed the movie La La Land. If you are a fan of the movie or if you are a fan of Los Angeles, I promise you will have a grand old time.
Hermosa Beach Pier
Also known as the place where Ryan Gosling first sings “City of Stars”
Pier Ave. Hermosa Beach, CA
A few steps from the Pier is The Lighthouse Cafe where my friend and I had Brunch. They open at 11am on Sundays and play Jazz all day; the food was delicious, the price was reasonable and the music was perfection.
The Lighthouse Cafe
Also known as the place where Sebastian first introduces Mia to Jazz
30 Pier Ave. Hermosa Beach, CA.
Watts Towers of Simon Rodia State Historic Park
This place is shown in one of the Mia & Sebastian sequences where they’re on a date
1765 E. 107th St. Los Angeles, CA.
You can only enter the towers if you pay for the tour but it’s only $7 (cash only) plus our tour guide was engaging and entertaining.
“You Are the Star” Mural
Mia walks in front of this right before she walks into the Restaurant that Sebastian gets fired from
Wilcox, Los Angeles, CA
This is on the corner of Wilcox and Hollywood Blvd. (Don’t be surprised to find boxes and/or homeless people right in front of it.)
I mean, it’s the epic date – No need to explain the scene, right?
2800 E Observatory Ave. Los Angeles, CA
Tip: DO NOT GO ON A WEEKEND. We couldn’t even park, we just stopped by the side of the road, took a couple of pictures and almost fell down a hill (be careful out there). I’ve been there a few times and whether it’s day or night, the view is truly breathtaking so I definitely recommend you go.
My friend Kristen and I found that the best way to honor this movie was to go and visit the places where the movie was filmed. Plus, I stood where Emma Stone has stood before so we’re basically best friends! I encourage you to go on the adventure and come back to tell me all about it.
Happy exploring and Happy La La Land Day!
