Last week I was lucky enough to attend a special show at The Grammy Museum. They have a special series called Spotlight where they showcase up and coming musicians and I was ecstatic to be able to attend their show featuring Ms. Andra Day.
I’ll be honest, the day of the show I was feeling tired and all I wanted to do was go home and SLEEP. However, I pushed through the sleepy feeling and let me tell you; I am so happy I did. Not only was the concert portion of the show amazing but the interview part was inspiring and motivating. It is absolutely refreshing to hear a musician talk about their own music as passionately as you do when you describe it to others. Andra Day’s music embedded itself in me the very first time I heard it and it intensely inspired me so it was wonderful to hear that she truly does put her everything into what she creates.
During the interview part of the show the theme of fearlessness continued to be brought up and I couldn’t help but feel like this was The Universe sending me a very clear message. The thing is, every single day I wake up wishing I was a full time writer. I wake up dreading the thought of going into work to work 8- 10 hours (that overtime has been killing me lately) doing something other than writing; and it’s not that I dislike my job. I actually very much enjoy my job and the people that I work with, it’s just that my passion is writing and I cannot kick the thought from my head that I am meant to do something else. Something bigger. So I definitely took in everything Andra Day said about fearlessness and I promise to try to live my life in a fearless fashion (easier said than done).
Do I even need to discuss the concert portion of the show? Of course her voice was flawless and it was an other-worldly experience to watch her live. She breaths passion and life experience into every single note that she sings. Definitely, teared up during “Rise Up” because the energy in the room was inescapable.
Andra Day is currently getting ready to headline her first tour and I absolutely encourage you to search whether she is coming to a city near you because she is worth every penny you would spend on her concert ticket.
Here is me attempting to manifest what I want into a reality: mark my words, I will meet Andra Day and I will get to interview Andra Day and it will be wonderful! I’m trying to make dreams come true over here people, believe with me!
