Welcome to Women’s History Month! I am taking inspiration from Sara Bareille’s newsletter and am using this month as a platform to celebrate the women in my life that inspire me, that motivate me, that love me and that show me strength.
Sometimes when you’re put on the spot, your sentences don’t quite form the way you want them to. So when I was asked on my podcast (Tres Leches, find us on Spotify and iTunes) to shout out some of my close friends, maybe I started a certain sentence with, “I have wonderful coworkers”.
I’d like to point out that I was cut off right before I got to Alex’s name and I was going to elaborate on the coworker part because she’s clearly so much more than that … but Alex cared about none of that when she listened to the episode. I’ve made it clear since then, but this feels like the appropriate place to emphasize that Alex is so much more than just my coworker.

The Universe continues to gift me with the best people and Alejandra is no exception. I’m not just saying this because I now have the perfect concert buddy and I’m not just saying it because she’s a ride or die when it comes to my crazy adventures, though it definitely helps. The Universe truly got it right when it brought her into my life.
She reminds me to believe in myself.
She listens to my rambles, my insecurities, my obsessions and will always listen to any song that I send her. I was unprepared for our friendship; when we met I was still grieving the end of a friendship and completely closed off to new people but life has a funny way of crashing people into your life at the perfect time.
I got extremely lucky with this one and I hope she realizes how absolutely special she is. I have seen the way she handles stress at work and before she starts to disagree, I’d like to say that she does it gracefully. I have seen her grow and gain more confidence in her job since I’ve met her and though she still gets through conference calls with a bright red face, I think everyone we work with would agree that she’s only gotten better at everything with time.

Alex has taught me how to believe in myself. Though she listens to the ramblings of my self-doubt, she never allows me to sit in my misery for too long. She is kind, she is compassionate and she is the most patient person I have ever met.
I am a lot. My mind is always going, no amount of concerts are too many to attend, the Jake Gyllenhaal obsession is very much real and she loves me with kindness and excitement through it all.
So here’s to more concerts, to more intense conversations, to more movie dates, to more funny Snapchat filters, to more love notes at work, to more music playlists, to more laughing until we’re crying and to more dancing until you break your phone … again.
