Friday is my favorite day of the week and it isn’t just because it’s the last workday before the weekend, it’s also the day where most new music gets thrust upon the world and my happy ears get to consume it throughout the day.
This could have easily been a Carrie Underwood, Gavin James, Billy Raffoul or Pentatonix appreciation post. However, it’s Sleeping at Last that has wrapped it’s musical little arms around my broken heart.
I have been a fan of them for a few years now because I’m an avid Grey’s Anatomy watcher and their music is often featured in their episodes. They are equal parts heartbreaking and romantic, they have mastered the art of covering songs and their original songs are lyrically impressive. Their version of “Already Gone”, a song originally by Kelly Clarkson, is a heartbreaking journey that often brings tears to my eyes.
The song that was released this past week is “Four” and I can’t seem to stop listening to it.
Bodies fashioned out of dirt and dust
For a moment we get to be glorious
Ice sculptures adorned in light
Sand castles built tall in between the tides
Maybe I’m hiding behind metaphor
Maybe my heart needs to break to be sure
One day I’ll wear it all on my sleeve
The insignificant with the sacred unique
If you’re looking for music that will speak to your soul, Sleeping At Last is who you need to look up. I could easily go on and on, but I’ll let their music speak for itself. So now go and fill your weekend with wonderful music. xx
