I hate to sound like a broken record on this site but: Johnnyswim are incapable of creating bad music.
I said it and I meant it.
Their latest release is a collaboration with Drew Holcomb and the duo Penny and Sparrow. They put together 5 wonderful songs in an EP that is quickly becoming my favorite 2018 release so far. Goodbye Road is a magical musical collaboration and I may or may not have cried while listening to the EP. The songs are tender, the harmonies are perfection, the lyrics are heartfelt and the soul shines through with each song.
“Ring the Bells” kicks off the EP, which is the kind of song that makes you feel like you’re sitting around a bonfire, having the time of your life with your closest friends. “Just Your Memory” is absolutely heartbreaking, but in the kind of way that slowly puts you back together after the chaos.
You had to walk away from me
You had to do some thinking
Don’t wanna cry each time you leave
I’ll probably end up drinking
Amanda Grace and her extraordinary vocals absolutely shine in this song. “Goodbye Road” got the tears rolling; I’m not sure if it was the otherworldly harmonies, the way the vocals lead the song or the soul that carries the entire song; but the emotions got the better part of me while driving to work this morning.
Goodbye Road is an exceptional collaboration of musicians and my only complaint is that it’s only 5 songs long. Do yourself a favor and listen to this EP, I promise your Friday will improve by 50% … at least.
